AFHCO (African Housing Company)

AFHCO (short for African Housing Company) is a Johannesburg inner-city residential and commercial property company, established in 1996 and known for redeveloping and managing affordable rental housing in the Johannesburg CBD and surrounding areas. Since 2014, AFHCO has been owned by SA Corporate Real Estate Fund, a JSE-listed Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT).

As part of its social investment, AFHCO runs an annual bursary for its residents and their dependants, paying a fixed award directly to the recipient's educational institution rather than to the student. The bursary is one of the ways AFHCO gives back to the tenant communities living in its buildings.

AFHCO typically opens applications early in the calendar year and selects recipients through a random draw among eligible applicants, rather than through an interview or purely merit-based process.
