About Life Healthcare Nursing Bursary
The Life Healthcare Nursing Bursary helps students who are already registered for a Bachelor of Nursing degree. Life Healthcare, a private hospital group, paid this funding directly to the student's university. The last call that we could trace closed on 28 February 2024.
We could not find a newer bursary advert, so this nursing bursary is closed for now. The terms below come from a published copy of the 2024 advert. Life Healthcare also runs a separate nursing training programme at its own learning centres, which is a different route into the profession.
Funding Details
Life Healthcare paid the funding directly to your university, but the advert did not state an amount. Ask whether it would cover your whole fee account or only part of it, and whether it also includes books or accommodation.
The advert did not describe a work-back period of its own. It only said that you could not already have one with another funder. Hospital groups often link funding to employment, so ask directly whether you would need to work at a Life Healthcare hospital, and for how long. Ask too what you must repay if you leave your studies.
Keep your fee statement current as well, since the amount that you owe can change during the year.
Where You Can Study
You needed to be registered at a recognised and accredited South African tertiary institution. The advert did not name specific universities. Because the money went straight to the institution, you also needed a letter from your university that confirmed its banking details.

Fields of Study & Who Can Apply
The 2024 call was for South African citizens who had completed Matric and were currently registered for a Bachelor of Nursing. It did not fund other health qualifications, and it did not suit school leavers who had not yet registered.
The rules on other funding were strict. Applicants could not receive any other funding, including NSFAS. They also could not be bound by a work-back agreement with another funder. So this award suited students without any support, particularly those who faced a fee balance and had nowhere else to turn.
Nursing requires clinical skill, patience and steady academic work. If a new call opens, give clear information about your progress so far and your reasons for choosing nursing. Mention any practical experience you have gained in a clinic or hospital, and explain the type of nursing you hope to practise.
Application Procedure
In 2024, applicants emailed a completed form and documents to LHCBursary@lifehealthcare.co.za. We could not confirm that this route still works, so check the Life Healthcare website for a current notice or call 011 219 9000. Only successful candidates received a funding letter.
Applications for this cycle have closed. Check the provider's site for the next intake.
