About Old Mutual Accounting Bursary

Old Mutual's Accounting Bursary funds students pursuing the Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) pathway through an Accounting Science degree, as part of the group's Early Careers programme. It is a distinct bursary stream from Old Mutual's Actuarial Bursary (see the Old Mutual Actuarial Bursary listing), with its own academic requirements and its own in-house training programme.

Recipients are expected to commit to Old Mutual's Chartered Accountant Training (OMCAT) Programme and to work for the company after qualifying — a work-back structure similar in principle to the actuarial stream, but built around the CA(SA) qualification route rather than actuarial exams.

The bursary covers most study costs, including tuition and accommodation, and bursars additionally receive mentorship, networking opportunities, vacation work, and guaranteed employment after graduation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from the Old Mutual Actuarial Bursary?

This bursary funds the Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) route via an Accounting Science degree and the OMCAT training programme, not actuarial science. Academic thresholds also differ — this stream requires 70% for Maths, rather than an A symbol.

What are the academic requirements?

At least 70% for Mathematics, 60%/70% for English (HL/FAL), and 70% for all other matric subjects.

What is OMCAT?

The Old Mutual Chartered Accountant Training Programme — the in-house training path bursars commit to after graduating, leading toward the CA(SA) qualification.

Is there a work-back obligation?

Yes. Bursars are required to work for Old Mutual after qualifying, as part of the OMCAT commitment.

When does the next intake open?

The 2027 cycle ran from April and closed on 30 June 2026. Old Mutual typically reopens Accounting Bursary applications earlier in the following year — check the official Old Mutual careers page for exact dates.
