Afrimat

Afrimat Limited is a JSE-listed, mid-tier South African mining and construction materials group. It supplies construction materials such as aggregates, cement and readymix concrete, industrial minerals including lime, bulk commodities such as iron ore, anthracite and manganese, and future materials and metals such as phosphate and rare earths. Afrimat listed on the JSE Main Board in 2006 and now operates across Southern Africa through subsidiaries including Afrimat Contract Mining Services.

Several of Afrimat's individual quarry and mining sites run their own site-specific bursary programmes for students from the surrounding communities rather than a single group-wide scheme. Its Coega Quarry and Denver Quarry operations, both run by Afrimat CM Eastern Cape (Pty) Ltd within the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality in the Eastern Cape, are two such examples, prioritising local applicants and funding fields including mechanical and electrical engineering, finance and human resources.

These site-level bursaries function as a recruitment and community-development pipeline for Afrimat's regional operations, tying funding to the communities each quarry operates in.
