The programme has two parts. First, the bursary pays for one year of full-time study. Then the student moves into a paid learnership lasting one year. This takes place in either Cape Town or Johannesburg, and it may lead to full-time employment afterwards. As a result, the bursary works as the first stage of a hiring process.

For a student, a consulting learnership is a practical start. You learn how to map a business process, interview clients, analyse data and present findings. These skills carry over to many careers, whether you stay in consulting or later move into a bank, retailer or technology company.

What to know before applying
