Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA)

The Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) is the supreme audit institution of the country, constitutionally mandated to audit and report on the finances of every national and provincial government department, municipality, and public entity.

AGSA funds Chartered Accountancy students because its entire mandate depends on a steady supply of qualified auditors - without them, the institution simply can't fulfil its constitutional oversight role. The bursary is effectively a multi-year recruitment pipeline for its own audit teams.

Recipients sign a formal training contract: a fixed period of employment with AGSA after qualifying, served through the organisation's own SAICA-registered training programme, similar in structure to a Big Four audit firm's training contract.
