Department of Land Reform and Rural Development

The Department of Land Reform and Rural Development (DLRRD) is a South African national government department responsible for equitable access to land, secure land tenure, spatial justice, and inclusive rural economic development. It operates as a standalone department, separate from the Department of Agriculture, following the post-2024 national government restructuring that split land reform and rural development functions out of the former combined Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development.

DLRRD funds a bursary programme aimed at building a pipeline of qualified professionals in Geomatics, land surveying, and town and regional planning - fields that feed directly into the department's land administration and spatial planning mandate.
