About Dube TradePort
Dube TradePort Corporation develops and manages the Dube TradePort Special Economic Zone around King Shaka International Airport, north of Durban. It is a provincial public entity that reports to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs. The airport itself is owned and run by Airports Company South Africa, so the two organisations are separate.
The zone covers more than 3,000 hectares and is planned to grow over several decades. It includes Dube City, the Dube TradeZone for light industry, the Dube AgriZone for agriculture and a cargo terminal. The corporation also leads the Durban Aerotropolis, an airport-city plan with the zone at its centre.
How Dube TradePort supports students
Through its corporate social investment department, Dube TradePort runs a skills development programme for young people. The programme has four parts: an internship programme for unemployed graduates, an in-service training programme for students who need practical experience to finish their qualifications, an apprenticeship programme for people who want to become artisans, and a bursary scheme. The corporation says it has invested over R25 million in youth development through the programme.
The bursary scheme, which the corporation calls financial assistance, is meant for students who live in KwaZulu-Natal and who cannot get NSFAS funding. It currently supports students in engineering, agriculture, information technology, maritime studies and the built environment. You can read about the current round on our Dube TradePort Bursary page.
What to know before applying
Dube TradePort says it opens applications for its internship and in-service programmes in February, so watch for that month if you need work experience rather than funding. The financial assistance programme has no closing date on the careers page, so ask the corporation before you plan around a deadline.
You must already live in KwaZulu-Natal, and you need to have been accepted, provisionally accepted or to hold a CAO application receipt. Only those who qualify will be considered. If you want to see vacancies, use the careers page on the corporation's website, and contact the head office on +27 32 814 0000 if you cannot find the information you need.
Start with the careers page, which separates vacancies, internships and financial assistance. Choose the programme that fits your stage of study, because the internship and in-service programmes differ from the bursary scheme. Keep your letter of acceptance or CAO receipt ready, and keep your contact details up to date.
Because several programmes run side by side, read each description before you apply. A student who needs experience, a graduate who needs an internship and a school leaver who needs funding will all use different pages.
