About Indalo Education
Indalo Education is the bursary and education fund created by iNdalo Water Technologies (Pty) Ltd. This South African environmental engineering company designs and operates sustainable water and wastewater treatment systems. The word "iNdalo" means "nature" or "environment" in isiXhosa and isiZulu, which fits the company's focus on protecting water resources.
South Africa faces serious water security pressures. Ageing infrastructure, drought and growing demand all strain the system. Consequently, the sector needs engineers, scientists, planners and administrators who can manage water well. The Indalo Education bursary is the company's way of helping to build that workforce.
How Indalo Education supports students
The fund backs both undergraduate and postgraduate study, including honours, masters and PhD levels. It is open to a wide mix of fields in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, commerce and the humanities. Published lists have included civil, chemical, mechanical and electrical engineering, environmental management and sustainability, chemistry, biology and earth sciences. Commerce and economics fields linked to the water sector, such as finance, supply chain and project management, also appear. So do public health, development studies, law, policy and governance.
For undergraduates, advertised support has included full tuition for the length of the degree, a book and equipment allowance and access to industry mentorship. Bursars may also find internship or vacation-work opportunities. Postgraduate recipients can receive help with research costs, conference attendance and publication. Living cost cover has also been mentioned, although the exact package depends on the intake.
The mentorship element is worth noting. Many bursaries stop at paying fees. In contrast, this one tries to connect students with people already working in water, which can open doors that marks alone cannot.
What to know before applying
Recent calls asked for a minimum average of about 60% and for evidence of financial need. You will probably need to show your academic record, proof of registration or acceptance at a South African institution and proof of household income. Always check the current requirements, because they can change.
The closing date falls early in the year. For the 2026 academic year, it was 1 March 2026. Therefore, you should prepare your documents in advance, rather than waiting for the advert.
The published information does not give a clear work-back rule. Ask the fund about any service obligation before you sign. Use only the official Indalo Education website for applications, and never pay anyone to apply on your behalf.
If you care about clean water and want a career that serves communities, this fund deserves a close look.
