About NWK and AgTech@NWK
NWK Limited is an agricultural business that operates mainly in South Africa's North West Province. It has a history of more than a century in the region's grain and food chain. Its work includes farming inputs, grain handling and storage, retail, and financial and technical services for farmers.
In September 2022, NWK renamed its agricultural management services division as AgTech@NWK. The new name reflects a shift toward precision farming, advisory and consulting work, extension services, and agri-tech research and development. The division is based in Lichtenburg in the North West.
The North West is a major maize-growing region, so NWK's agri-tech focus ties directly to the needs of local producers. Farmers there face changing weather and rising input costs. Advisory and extension teams help them decide what to plant, when to plant and how to use technology wisely. Honours students who train in this setting may see that work first-hand.
How AgTech@NWK supports students
AgTech@NWK runs a small student funding programme for honours students. It is meant for people studying towards a BSc Agriculture Honours degree. The aim is to help future agricultural professionals finish their studies and then gain practical experience in the field.
The programme offers study funding to support the honours year. It also includes practical training during university breaks. Students work with experienced professionals at AgTech@NWK in Lichtenburg. They receive an induction and hands-on exposure to modern agricultural practice, which classroom study alone cannot give.
A career path is part of the offer. Students who finish the programme and meet performance expectations may be offered employment within the NWK Group. However, this is a possibility and not a guarantee. The exact funding amount and any formal work-back terms are not confirmed in public sources, so ask NWK about them before you accept.
What to know before applying
You must be enrolled in a BSc Agriculture Honours degree. The most recent advert asked students to keep at least a 50% pass mark in every module. It also expected them to be willing to complete the practical training in Lichtenburg during breaks. Students who already receive another bursary needed approval first.
Applications were made by contacting the company directly, not through a large online portal. Candidates were asked to send their full name, qualification, university, confirmation of honours enrolment, latest academic results and contact details. The recent closing date was in February. Use only the contact details on the official advert or the AgTech@NWK website, and be wary of unofficial sources.
Because the programme is small, spaces are limited. Start early, keep your results strong and read the current advert on the AgTech@NWK website. If you hope to work in farming advice or agri-tech in the North West, this bursary offers a useful first step.
