About SACPLAN

SACPLAN is the South African Council for Planners. It is a statutory body set up under the Planning Profession Act of 2002. Its job is to regulate the planning profession, protect the public interest and keep standards high. The council is based in Midrand, Gauteng.

In practice, SACPLAN registers qualified planners and enforces professional discipline. It also checks the quality of planning education. Universities across the country, including CPUT, DUT, UCT and Wits, offer planning programmes that the council accredits. Graduates from accredited programmes can then apply for registration as planners.

How SACPLAN supports students
