South African National Petroleum Company (SANPC)

The South African National Petroleum Company (SANPC) is a new state-owned company formed by merging three subsidiaries of the Central Energy Fund - iGas, PetroSA, and the Strategic Fuel Fund - following a Cabinet decision taken in June 2020 as part of government's plan to rationalise state-owned enterprises. Only iGas and the Strategic Fuel Fund were assessed as financially viable for a full merger, with PetroSA contributing its Trading division and Ghana asset to the new entity. SANPC officially launched on 23 May 2025.

SANPC's mandate is to strengthen South Africa's energy security, reduce reliance on imported petroleum products, and consolidate management of the country's petroleum assets under a single, more efficient state entity. As part of its transformation commitments, SANPC runs a full-cost bursary scheme specifically for Persons with Disabilities.
