Thuto Pele NPC

Thuto Pele NPC is a registered non-profit company established to provide educational upliftment to students from previously disadvantaged communities, in line with the goals of the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act. Rather than operating as a standalone donor, Thuto Pele is structured as a shareholder in Plantech (Pty) Ltd, a professional consulting engineering firm specialising in the project management and design of electrical and mechanical engineering systems and infrastructure within the built environment. This ownership link means the bursary programme is closely tied to Plantech's own talent needs rather than being a general-purpose charitable fund.

Thuto Pele funds bursaries of up to R50 000 towards tuition fees and prescribed textbooks for final-year students in Telecommunication Engineering, Information Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Electrical Engineering, disciplines that feed directly into Plantech's project and design work. Funding final-year students specifically, rather than students earlier in their studies, allows the organisation to evaluate near-graduates and bring them into the business with minimal delay once they qualify. This structure serves both a genuine social upliftment purpose and Plantech's need for a steady supply of newly qualified engineers who already understand the business.

Unlike some of the other bursaries offered by providers on this site, Thuto Pele's work-back obligation is explicit and confirmed: graduates are required to work at Plantech as Engineers-in-Training for a period equal to the number of years they received funding, one year of service for each year of bursary support received.
