Tuition at Stellenbosch University (SU) depends on your programme and year of study. SU's fees yearbook lists estimated study fees for the first year of each undergraduate programme. The figures below come from SU's 2026 student fees yearbook, so expect higher amounts for 2027. SU also offers an online fee quotation tool for a more exact estimate.

- BCom (Management, Economic, Mathematical Sciences, Financial or Management Accounting): R59,587
- BAcc: R68,525
- BCom (Actuarial Science): R83,419

The yearbook also gives the estimated total cost of a full degree. For example, the BCom comes to about R182,733 over three years, and the BAcc to about R222,458.
Paying in instalments
SU lets you pay your fees in eight instalments, each a set share of the year's total:
- 20% each on 28 February, 31 March, 30 April and 31 May
- 5% each on 30 June, 31 July, 31 August and 30 September
The first instalments on study and accommodation fees are usually payable at registration. SU charges interest monthly, at the prime bank rate, on amounts that remain unpaid after the due dates, even if you have not received a statement. You can also pay through SU's debit order system. The final date for payment is 30 September, so check your account regularly after that date.
Residence fees
If SU offers you a place in a residence, you accept it by paying an acceptance fee of R5,100. In 2026, a single room in an undergraduate residence on the Stellenbosch campus cost about R74,493 to R76,265 a year, and a double room about R61,376 to R62,708. These amounts exclude house fees and meals.
Cancelling a residence place
If you cancel your residence place on or before 30 September of the year before, you pay no accommodation fees for the next year. After that, SU charges a cancellation fee of R1,000 after 30 September, R2,000 after 31 October and R3,000 after 30 November.
If a bursary pays your fees
If you give written proof of a bursary or loan that covers your first instalment, you do not have to pay it at registration. If the bursary or loan covers less than the first instalment, you must pay the difference yourself by the due date. Any fees still in arrears also block your results and your registration for the next year. SU also offers a family rebate, and the deadline for its forms in 2026 was 30 September.
Funding your studies
SU's own financial assistance applications close on 30 September, and NSFAS sets its own dates. Browse our bursaries, or read the Stellenbosch overview.
