UKZN Student Portal

Students at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) use several online systems: the self-help iEnabler for applications and registration, Student Central for student services, and Moodle (Learn) for online learning. The guidance below comes from UKZN's student support portal and its Information and Communication Services (ICS) guides.

The self-help iEnabler

You use the self-help system with your student number and a PIN. It gives you access to the Student Tracker and online registration. If you have no PIN, enter your student number and click Request a PIN, and UKZN sends it to your cellphone or email. You must reset a new PIN before you can log in, and PINs with repeated digits are not allowed.

Online registration

UKZN's support portal has a step-by-step guide to online registration. Make sure your funding is in place first, because students with a bursary or loan must have it available at the time of registration.

Student Central

Student Central is UKZN's student services site. You log in with your student number only as the username, and your LAN password.

Your LAN password

Your UKZN network (LAN) password also gives you access to other UKZN systems. You can change it on UKZN's self-service password site, which needs your current password. If you have forgotten it, visit an ICS walk-in centre or email ICS support to receive a new password by SMS.

Moodle (Learn)

UKZN's learning site runs on Moodle, where you find your course material. If you forget your password, use the forgotten password page. If UKZN finds your username or email, it emails you instructions on how to get access again.

Getting IT help

  • ICS Student Call Centre: 031 260 4000
  • Remote assistance: ICS can help remotely using TeamViewer
  • Logging issues: report IT problems on UKZN's Freshdesk support portal

The student support portal

UKZN's Freshdesk portal is a ticket system for students and staff. It holds answers to common questions, such as how to track your application or register online, and lets you log a query if you cannot find an answer.

Finding funding information

UKZN's prospectus notes that its funding database is available on its website under Student Portal and Financial Support and Scholarships.

Stay safe

Log out when you use a shared computer. Never share your PIN or passwords, and keep your cellphone number and email up to date, because UKZN sends PINs and new passwords to them. See the UKZN application status page, or read the UKZN overview.
