After you apply to the University of South Africa (UNISA), you can track your application online and receive the outcome by email. The steps below come from UNISA's application and approval pages.
Track your application
Use UNISA's Track Application Status page. You need your student number, surname, first name and date of birth. If you were registered at UNISA before, UNISA also sends the outcome of your application to your myLife email account.
Check your email
When you apply, you give UNISA one email address and one cellphone number, and UNISA uses them to communicate with you during the application process. So check your emails regularly. Save your email address and password, and do not use more than one email address.
How UNISA decides
UNISA assesses your application using its points score system. It may offer you a space for semester 1 if you meet the academic admission requirements for your qualification and its minimum APS, and if space is available. Applicants who do not qualify receive feedback as soon as their applications are processed.
Waiting for an offer
Applicants who qualify receive final feedback only once UNISA has processed all applications received by the closing date. Spaces for some qualifications are limited, so you may not be accepted automatically even if you qualify.
Complete the FYE MOOC
If you are applying to UNISA for the first time, you must complete the free First-Year Experience online course (FYE MOOC). You cannot accept your offer until you have finished it.
Accept or decline your offer
- You have 10 working days to accept or decline, unless your offer email says otherwise.
- If you applied for more than one qualification, wait until all your applications are processed before you accept your preferred offer.
- Once you accept an offer, you cannot change your mind.
- UNISA may withdraw an offer if you do not accept it in time.
Register
You must register for the period for which UNISA admitted you. If you do not register, you have to apply again in the next application period. UNISA can also withdraw an offer if it finds that you do not meet the requirements.
Incomplete applications
Your application is only processed if you paid the application fee and uploaded all your documents by the closing date. An incomplete application means applying again in the next period.
If you are unsuccessful
UNISA tells you if your application was unsuccessful, and you can explore other study options on its website. See also the myUnisa student portal page.
