About BASF South Africa Trust Bursary

The BASF South Africa Trust Bursary funds Black South African women who study chemistry, science or engineering. The BASF South Africa Trust has supported students since 2018. Published copies of the 2027 advert give closing dates of 15 January 2027 for current tertiary students and 22 January 2027 for current matric students.

The trust's own site does not show those dates, so confirm them before you rely on them. Its application form is online, and you can start preparing your documents now.

Funding Details

Copies of the advert say that the bursary covers tuition, textbooks, accommodation and a monthly stipend. The trust's own site describes scholarships, bursaries and awards in general terms, and it gives no value per student.

Neither source mentions a work-back. Because BASF is a large chemical employer, ask whether your agreement sets any conditions on work after you graduate. You should also declare any historic debt on the form, along with proof.

Copies of the advert also say that you must hold no other bursary or scholarship for 2027. The form asks whether NSFAS funds you and how you pay otherwise, so answer those questions fully.

Where You Can Study

Copies of the advert refer to recognised, accredited South African institutions, and you must be enrolled or intend to enrol at one. They do not list specific universities. Your proof of acceptance forms part of the application, so apply for a university place first.

Fields of Study & Who Can Apply

This award is for South African women who are Black in terms of the B-BBEE codes. That means African, Coloured or Indian applicants. Copies of the advert say that it covers undergraduate or Honours study in chemistry, engineering or an eligible science field.

Master's and PhD study do not qualify, according to those copies. Neither do medical sciences or economic sciences. So check your qualification against this rule first, particularly if your degree combines science with another subject.

You should also show financial need and a strong academic record. The copies give no minimum mark, but the trust's form asks for your Mathematics, Physical Science and English marks. Therefore, those subjects clearly matter to the selection panel.

Finally, shortlisted applicants may have to provide more information or attend an interview. If you hear nothing, treat your application as unsuccessful.

Application Procedure

Complete the trust's online application form. It starts with qualifying questions, and it asks you to confirm that you have every document ready. It also asks for a motivation of up to 250 words, so write this in advance. Copies of the advert give basf_za_trust@outlook.com for questions.
