Irish Aid Kader Asmal Scholarship

The Kader Asmal Fellowship Programme is a fully-funded scholarship for South African citizens to complete a Master's degree in Ireland, jointly run by the Embassy of Ireland in South Africa (Irish Aid) and the Canon Collins Trust. It is named in honour of the late Professor Kader Asmal, who taught law at Trinity College Dublin for 27 years before returning to South Africa to serve as a cabinet minister, commemorating his lasting connection between the two countries.

Around 12 fellowships are awarded each year across a defined list of disciplines - including climate change, engineering, development studies, human rights law, health sciences, education, gender studies, technology, business management, food science, and tourism - with fellows selecting from a published directory of eligible Irish university programmes rather than any Irish Master's degree.

The fellowship covers university application fees, tuition and exam fees, economy return airfare, accommodation, a monthly living stipend, a settling-in allowance, a book allowance, and student visa costs.

Fellows study at Irish higher education institutions offering programmes listed in the Fellowship's published Directory of Eligible Programmes. Applicants select up to three eligible programmes across participating Irish universities as part of their application, rather than choosing any Irish Master's degree freely.
