About Eskom Learnership
The Eskom Learnership trains young South Africans for technical work at power stations, including artisan and plant operator roles. Eskom, the national electricity utility, advertises these posts by power station. One recent call, for 24 places at Tutuka Power Station near Standerton, closed on 15 September 2026.
We found no open learnership on the date of this review, as other 2026 calls have also closed. Eskom opens these posts at different times, so check often. The terms below come from published copies of the 2026 adverts, and each new call can differ.

Funding Details
The Tutuka adverts described pay as market related and listed the posts at task grades L5 and L7. They did not publish exact amounts, so ask about pay when you get an offer. The main benefit is structured technical training at a working power station, with a route towards a trade or an operator role.
The adverts we read did not describe a work-back period. Eskom also states that it may choose not to make any appointments. A place in training therefore does not promise permanent employment, so ask what happens when your programme ends.
Where You Can Study
You do not apply through a college. Successful candidates receive institutional training and on-the-job training through Eskom, and adverts usually name a specific power station. So check where the station is, and work out whether you can live close to it during the programme.

Fields of Study & Who Can Apply
Applicants must be South African citizens. The Tutuka call had three streams. Learner Artisan places covered Mechanical, Electrical and Control and Instrumentation (C&I) work. Learner Plant Operator places trained people to run power station plant. Engineer in Training posts were for graduates with a completed engineering degree.
The school subjects matter most for the first two streams. If you have Grade 12, you needed at least 50% for Mathematics, 50% for Physical Science and 40% for English. N3 or NCV Level 4 applicants needed similar marks, with Engineering Science or Science.
Eskom may give preference to applicants from under-represented designated groups, and it encourages candidates with disabilities to apply. These posts suit people who like practical work and can handle shift patterns and safety rules. Read each advert carefully, since a call for one station may not match another.
Application Procedure
Apply only through the Eskom careers page, and quote the correct reference number and programme. The Tutuka adverts said to regard your application as unsuccessful if you hear nothing within 28 days of closing. Eskom adverts can stay visible after closing, so check the date itself.
