Engineering

Engineering is the largest category on this site, covering civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, mining and industrial engineering and related fields. Funders include mining houses, manufacturers, engineering consultancies, utilities and government bodies, because the country needs more qualified engineers than it produces.

Engineering bursaries are often generous, covering tuition, accommodation and a living allowance, and many include vacation work that counts towards professional registration. In exchange, a lot of them ask for a work-back period, so it is worth comparing the terms as well as the money.

What funders usually ask for:

  • Strong results in Mathematics and Physical Sciences.
  • Acceptance into an accredited engineering degree or diploma.
  • Sometimes a particular discipline, such as electrical or chemical engineering.
  • For community bursaries, proof that you live near the funder's operations.

Start by filtering for your discipline, then check the closing dates, since many close months before the academic year begins. Browse the listings below, and read our engineering funding guide for the main career routes and a longer list of awards.
