About Takealot Learnerships

Takealot runs a 12-month learnership in partnership with the Youth Employment Service (YES), giving unemployed South African youth hands-on experience in digital marketing and e-commerce. As South Africa's largest online retailer, Takealot needs people who understand how to run a business on its Marketplace platform.

Rather than working inside Takealot's own offices, learners on this programme are placed with small businesses that sell through the Takealot Marketplace. This gives Takealot a way to support small business growth on its platform while training new digital marketing talent at the same time.

Because this is a YES programme, it also counts toward Takealot's broader youth employment commitments, which is part of why the company invests in mentorship and structured support throughout the year.

Funding Details

Learners receive a monthly stipend of R5,500 for the full 12-month duration, working full time, Monday to Friday, eight hours a day. This is a genuinely full-time commitment rather than a part-time or occasional programme.

Beyond the stipend, learners get real mentorship and support from Takealot while working directly with small businesses, giving them practical experience that goes beyond classroom-based training alone.

Where You Can Study

This is a workplace-based learnership rather than a university or college programme, so there is no institution to apply to directly. Learners are placed with small businesses on the Takealot Marketplace, mainly in townships and urban centres across Gauteng.

Because placements happen with individual small businesses, the exact day-to-day experience can vary between learners, though all follow the same structured 12-month programme.
