Feenix

Feenix is a Public Benefit Organisation and crowdfunding platform established in response to the #FeesMustFall student movement of 2015/2016, built specifically to help students clear outstanding university debt.

Feenix works differently from a typical bursary funder: instead of running its own fixed pool of money, it lets students share their own story to crowdfund their fees directly, while also administering bursary programmes on behalf of corporate donors like Absa and FirstRand who want to fund historical debt relief at scale.

There is no employment work-back obligation attached to Feenix-administered funding - its purpose is specifically to unblock graduates who can't obtain their qualification or move into employment because of unpaid historical fees.
