The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) is a national government component established under Section 7(2), Schedule 3 of the Public Service Act, 1994, and falls under the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA). MISA's core mandate is to build the technical capacity of municipalities to plan, deliver, operate, and maintain infrastructure.
As part of that mandate, MISA runs a technical bursary scheme aimed at South African students studying toward built-environment qualifications, such as engineering, construction management, and town planning, who could go on to help fill the technical skills gap in municipalities.
MISA generally opens its bursary applications early in the calendar year for the following academic year, publishing a new advert and application form each cycle. The exact dates and contact email addresses change annually.
