About PG Group

PG Group is one of the best-known glass businesses in Southern Africa. It started in Cape Town in 1897 as a glass merchant. Today the group makes, distributes, fits and installs glass and related products. Its head office is at 18 Skeen Boulevard in Bedfordview, Johannesburg.

The group is built from several specialist businesses. PFG makes float glass, mirrors and laminated glass, and it produces about 260 000 tons of float glass a year. Shatterprufe supplies safety glass for vehicles. PG Glass runs roughly 130 fitment centres that replace windscreens and building glass. Other brands cover window film, aluminium frames and doors, and sliding windows. In addition, PG Glass Africa serves territories outside South Africa.

How PG Group supports students

A manufacturer of this size needs engineers, accountants and technology specialists. For that reason, PG Group offers a bursary to tertiary students. Recent adverts aim the programme at African female students. The fields named were accounting, information technology and engineering, including chemical, electrical and electronics engineering. However, the focus can shift from one intake to the next, so always read the current advert.

The most recent advert describes strong support. It covers tuition, stationery, accommodation and meals at university residence rates. Students also receive developmental mentoring while they study. During university breaks, they can do vocational work at the group. After graduation, successful students may be considered for the Graduate Development programme. Employment is a possibility rather than a promise, so treat it as an opportunity to earn.

What to know before applying

The latest advert asked for South African citizens aged 18 to 28. Applicants needed a matric average of at least 70%. They also needed 65% or more in their first-year university results. In practice, the bursary targets students who have already finished first year and are moving into second year at an accredited South African university. As a result, school leavers should not expect to qualify yet.

The closing date in the latest advert was 10 February 2026. Dates usually change every year, so check the official PG Group careers page for the new cycle. The company website itself says little about bursaries, which makes the published advert your best guide. Prepare certified copies of your ID, your matric certificate and your first-year results before you start.

The scale of the group is also useful to know. With glass making, vehicle glass fitment and aluminium products under one roof, graduates can see several parts of an industry. Chemical, electrical and electronics engineers all find real plant work in glass manufacturing, because float glass production depends on heat, chemistry and automated control.

Finally, apply early and keep your marks strong. Students who keep their results above the stated minimums give themselves the best chance of selection and renewal. Whether you study engineering, accounting or IT, PG Group is worth a look if you want industrial experience along with funding.
