It supplies packaging, labelling, coding and product-identification solutions to manufacturers in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. Customers include local factories and exporters. How Pyrotec supports students

The Pyrotec Bursary Programme supports study in about twelve broad disciplines. They include information technology, engineering, health and clinical services, architecture, town planning and surveying, business and economics, natural and social sciences, quality and regulatory work, media and design, sales and marketing, sports and fitness, finance and human resources. Programme material describes support from NQF level 4 up to postgraduate level. The wide choice of fields is unusual for a company bursary. It also contributes to accommodation at the rate of a single hostel room, with the amount decided by Pyrotec. Textbooks are covered up to R5,000 a year, and transport help is considered case by case. However, it does not cover meals or outstanding fees, and students must fund repeat subjects themselves.

What to know before applying

Only South African residents who are Affirmative Action and Employment Equity candidates may apply. This choice shows the bursary's role in redressing past inequality and building a more representative workforce. Applicants must be studying, or registered to study, at a recognised South African tertiary institution. Applicants usually send a certified ID, a matric certificate or proof of highest qualification, a motivational letter and proof of registration or acceptance. Those who want transport support add proof of address, and estimated study costs help the company assess need. Submissions go by email or by hand to the human resources department. The closing date for the 2026 round was at the end of January, and unsuccessful candidates were not notified.
