Nelson Mandela University Application Status

Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

After you apply to Nelson Mandela University, you track your application on its Student Admission Tracking dashboard. The guidance below comes from the university's 2027 application guidelines.

Your student number and PIN

Once your online application has been processed, you receive a student number and PIN. Receiving a student number does not mean the university has accepted you, because admission is a separate process.

Tracking your status

Log in to the Student Admission Tracking dashboard with your student number and PIN. If you forget your PIN, you can reset it on the same dashboard.

Upload your documents

The university cannot finalise your application without your documents. South African citizens must upload a certified copy of their ID, or a birth certificate while waiting for their ID. You also need your latest school results, such as Grade 11 final or Grade 12 June or September results, but not March results.

How selection works

First, you must meet the minimum Applicant Score and subject requirements. Then, in January, the university makes its final selection, called a firm offer, based on your Applicant Score, subject results and the number of places, until all spaces are taken.

Waiting list

If you do not get a firm offer because spaces are full, you may be placed on a waiting list. The university contacts you if a place opens up.

Accept within three days

If you receive a firm offer, confirm your acceptance or decline within three days. If you do not respond, the university assumes you are no longer interested, and your offer goes to someone on the waiting list.

How you hear the outcome

Final selection outcomes are sent by SMS, followed by an email to the address you gave on your application. So keep your own cellphone number and email address current.

Other documents

If you are a dependant, still at school or have recently left school, you also upload a declaration by your parent, legal guardian or surety. Applicants transferring from another institution need their full academic record and a certificate of conduct.

Residence and funding

Being accepted as a student does not mean you have a residence place, or that you automatically qualify for a bursary or loan. Apply for these separately.
