Rhodes University Application Status

Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

After you apply to Rhodes University, you follow your application on ROSS, the Rhodes Online Student Services system. The guidance below comes from the ROSS login page and Rhodes's application procedure.

Logging in to ROSS

To log in to ROSS, you need to have registered as an online user, or have received login details from Rhodes. If Rhodes has given you a student number and password, use those. If you do not yet have a student number, your login details come in the Registration to Online Admissions email that Rhodes sends after you register.

Activating your account

If you are logging in for the first time and have not created a password, choose the second login option on the ROSS page. ROSS emails you an activation link to activate your account.

Tracking progress

Once your application has been processed, you can monitor its progress on ROSS. Check it regularly, especially after your final matric results are released.

Avoid delays

Rhodes warns that an inaccurate or incomplete application holds up processing, and that false information means your application is rejected immediately. To avoid delays:

  • Complete every section in detail, including the details of the person responsible for your fees
  • Include a certified copy of your certificate if you have already matriculated
  • Include a full academic transcript if you studied at another institution
  • Make sure you and your parent or guardian both sign the form, if you apply on paper
  • Pay the R100 application fee

If your points are low

If you do not have the required points for admission, the Deans read the personal section of your application when they assess it. A positive report from your principal also helps, so complete these sections carefully.

Closing date

All applications should be submitted before the end of September. Apply early, so that your status can update in good time.

Write the NBTs early

Rhodes asks all applicants to write the National Benchmark Tests, and Commerce, Pharmacy and Science applicants also write the Mathematics test. Writing them early means your results are ready when the faculty assesses your application.

Financial clearance

Before you can register, you must take up one of Rhodes's payment options, or be on the NSFAS funding list. Registration is not permitted if you have not taken up a payment option. See the Rhodes fees page.
