Students at the University of Cape Town (UCT) use several online systems, all reached with one UCT network password: PeopleSoft student self-service for administration, Amathuba for online learning, and UCT email. The guidance below comes from UCT's undergraduate resources, its ICTS password pages and its postgraduate admin pages.
Set up your password before you arrive
UCT's ICTS asks new students to set up their UCT password before arriving on campus. Your password was sent to you in your admission letter from UCT's Admissions Office.
Logging in to PeopleSoft
Log in with your user ID, which is your student number in upper case letters, and your network password. PeopleSoft student self-service lets you:
- Check your application status
- See your current enrolments and results
- View your fee account
- Maintain and confirm your personal and academic information, such as your address and phone numbers
If you forget your password
Use UCT's password self-service site and choose Forgot password. UCT sends a one-time code to your registered mobile number or alternate email address. ICTS guides also describe resetting your password with the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone, so set it up early.
Amathuba
Amathuba is UCT's online learning platform, where you find course material and activities. You log in with the same UCT credentials.
UCT email
Undergraduate and honours students receive a UCT email account, and UCT publishes instructions for setting it up. Check it regularly, because UCT uses it for official communication.
Zero-rated access
UCT's login service is zero-rated, so you do not pay mobile data to authenticate. However, sites outside UCT's zero-rated list still use data after you log in.
Your responsibilities
UCT expects you to maintain and confirm your own personal and academic information in PeopleSoft, such as your contact details. Keeping them up to date ensures that password codes and official messages reach you.
You need a laptop
All students need a laptop from the first day of orientation to use these systems. First-time students can opt into the Student Laptop Programme when they complete their registration declaration.
Check your fees online
UCT also offers electronic fee statements, so you can follow your account online. For 2027, a 5% late payment surcharge applies to any first payment not received by 29 January 2027.
Getting help
For PeopleSoft login problems, consult the student self-service help documentation or email sss-helpdesk@uct.ac.za. For password and network problems, contact UCT's ICTS. See the UCT application status page, or read the UCT overview.
