Getting a quotation
The UFS suggests starting with an online quotation for the programme and modules you plan to take. Then check the Student Finance Yearbook for the first payments due before registration. Study material and notes are prepared automatically when you register, and you pay for them. If you cancel a module later, the UFS does not refund the notes.
Other costs to plan for
The programme prices are average yearly costs if you follow the prescribed curriculum, so your own total may differ, and a quotation gives a closer figure. Your first student card is free, but replacing a lost, stolen or damaged card costs a fee. If you drive to campus, you must buy a parking disc from Traffic Services by the end of February. Budget for residence or private accommodation, meals, transport and books on top of tuition.
Merit awards
The UFS gives automatic merit awards to first-year students based on their final matric results, and you can use the award towards registration. In the 2027 prospectus, an Admission Point score of 35 to 37 earns R6,000, 38 to 40 earns R10,000, 41 to 43 earns R15,000, and 44 or more earns R20,000.
Payment dates
South African and international students have different payment dates, so check the dates that apply to you to keep your account in good standing. Always quote your student or ID number when you pay, so that the money reaches your account. Payments without the correct reference can take longer to allocate.
