The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) publishes an Undergraduate Prospectus 2027 for applicants who will start their studies in 2027. It covers campuses, CAO applications, programmes and entrance requirements, funding, scholarships and accommodation. Here is what it contains and how to use it.

- Scholarships and merit awards: including the Pius Langa and Frene Ginwala scholarships
- Accommodation for students: residences on each campus

How to use the prospectus
- Calculate your points using UKZN's scale, where 90% or more earns 8 points.
- Find your programme in its college section, and check its points and subject levels.
- Note the programme's CAO code. The third letter shows the campus where it is offered.
- Plan your six CAO choices, remembering that some health sciences programmes consider only applicants who list them among their first three choices.
- Apply through the CAO before the closing date.
Closing dates in the 2027 prospectus
Medicine closed on 30 June 2026, and all other programmes on 30 September 2026. The CAO fee was R250 before 31 October 2026, and R470 from 1 November 2026.
Costs in the prospectus
UKZN estimates that a year in 2027 costs about R85,000 for tuition, a bed in residence and food. The prospectus lists 2026 fees for each degree, from about R45,947 for Education to R66,610 for some engineering programmes, and says 2027 fees are set in the second semester of 2026.
Where programmes are offered
Not every qualification is offered on every campus. The prospectus explains which fields are taught at each campus, and even where a qualification runs on more than one campus, some majors may only be offered on one.
How UKZN grades
The prospectus also explains UKZN's results scale: 50% to 59% is a third-class pass, 60% to 74% a second-class pass, and 75% and above a first-class pass.
Applying for residence and aid
You indicate on the CAO form whether you need residence accommodation and financial assistance. For UKZN, no further application forms are required.
Programmes without a CAO code
For programmes with no CAO code, you apply directly to UKZN, as the prospectus explains.
