You apply to the University of Limpopo (UL) online. Applications for the 2027 academic year, for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, opened on 1 April 2026. You can choose two study options on one application. UL describes its yearly cycle as running from about March to September, so apply early.
Before you apply
Check that you meet the APS and subject requirements for both of your choices in the undergraduate prospectus. Use your second choice for a realistic option, because space in each programme is limited and meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place. See the UL admission requirements page for the APS that popular programmes need.
The application steps
- Go to the online application on the UL website.
- Enter your personal details and your latest school results.
- Choose your two study options.
- Upload your documents, such as a certified copy of your ID and your results.
- Pay the application handling fee and submit.
The application fee
UL charges a non-refundable online application handling fee. Its undergraduate prospectus lists R200 for South African students and R750 for international students.
Residence applications
If you need a place in a university residence, apply for it separately. For 2027, residence applications stayed open until 30 September 2026, and UL did not consider late residence applications. Places are limited, so apply at the same time as your studies.
International applicants
International students follow the same annual cycle, which starts around March and closes in September. UL converts foreign qualifications with its own tables, so check how your results compare before you apply.
Documents
Prepare certified copies of your ID and your latest results before you start, and keep them as clear scans. If you studied at another institution before, have your academic record ready as well.
After you apply
UL contacts applicants about the outcome of their applications. Watch your email and phone, and respond quickly to any request for documents.
Registration payments
If UL accepts you and you are self-funded, you must make an advance payment before you register. In 2026, this was R3,000 towards tuition and R2,000 towards residence. Read more on the UL fees page.
Getting help
For questions about your programme, contact the relevant faculty. For example, the Faculty of Health Sciences is on 015 268 4311 or at SHCS@ul.ac.za. Keep your application number, because you need it whenever you contact the university about your application.
Apply for funding early as well. NSFAS opens its own applications separately, and many Limpopo municipalities and the provincial government also fund local students.
