Univen Fees

Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

Tuition at the University of Venda (Univen) depends on your programme and year of study. Univen's 2026 fees booklet lists the estimated cost of each programme for every year of study. The figures below come from that booklet, and Univen says that its fees may change at its discretion.

The registration amount

Self-funded students, and students whose sponsor confirmation has not arrived, pay R5,000 at registration. In 2026, this was made up of a R2,710 registration fee, a R1,100 SRC levy and a R1,190 tuition deposit. The registration fee, the SRC levy and any late registration fee are not refundable. NSFAS-funded students do not pay this amount, as long as they show proof of funding.

Estimated first-year tuition in 2026

  • Bachelor of Commerce: R48,280
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB): R35,160, rising to R66,130 in second year
  • Bachelor of Nursing: R35,910
  • BEd Foundation Phase: R33,400
  • BEd Further Education and Training: R36,850
  • Bachelor of Arts: R41,860
  • Bachelor of Administration: R41,520
  • BSc in Physiotherapy: R46,830
  • BSc (Agriculture): R47,150
  • BSc in the biological and physical sciences: R55,520
  • Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning: R53,570

The extended BCom programmes cost less in the first year, at about R18,680.

Paying the balance

Univen spreads the balance across the year. By 31 January, you pay 10% of the balance, then 30% by 31 March, 50% by 30 May, 70% by 31 July and 90% by 30 September. The rest is due by 31 October.

Other fees

  • Late registration fee: R4,480
  • Room deposit: R4,900 per semester
  • Supplementary or special exam: R340

Residence rules

Univen runs a central catering facility, but meals are optional and not included in residence fees. If you join a residence only in the second semester, you pay half of the annual residence fee. If you leave a residence during the first or third term, you are liable for 50% of that semester's residence fee.

Cancelling courses

If you cancel a course within 60 days of the start of the term, you receive a full refund. Between 60 and 90 days, you get 50% back, and after 90 days there is no refund. You must apply formally to cancel your studies, and your registration cannot be carried over to another cycle.

If you do not pay

If you miss the payment dates, Univen withholds your exam results, transcripts and certificates, and it does not let you register for the next cycle. Outstanding debts are handed over for collection. Univen emails statements to your university address, so check it often.

Family discounts

If more than one child from a family studies at Univen, the second child receives 15% off tuition, and the third and later children receive 20%.

Funding your studies

Qualifying students can apply for NSFAS, and the Limpopo government and local municipalities also fund students. Browse our bursaries, or read the Univen overview.
