Applying to the University of the Western Cape (UWC) is free, and you apply online. For the 2027 intake, applications opened on 2 April 2026, and the programme closing date was 30 September 2026. You may apply for up to two programmes. Here is how the process works, based on UWC's official application information.
Before you apply
Check the requirements for your two choices and work out your UWC points with the online calculator. UWC sets one closing date for all programmes, which was 30 September 2026 for the 2027 intake. Its future students team is on 021 959 2405 or at recruitment@uwc.ac.za if you need advice on what to study.
Step 1: Apply online
Complete the online application on the UWC website and choose up to two programmes. UWC advises keeping your options open, especially if you apply for competitive programmes in Dentistry, Community and Health Sciences, or Law. There is no application fee.
Step 2: Acknowledgement
UWC acknowledges your application. You also receive a brochure that lists the supporting documents you must submit before the closing date for your application to be complete.
Step 3: Upload your documents
Upload any outstanding documents through UWC's student document upload system. Current matriculants do not need to upload supporting documents, because UWC can access their results. Applicants who have finished school or studied elsewhere must send their documents in time.
Step 4: Receive an offer
If you are successful, UWC emails you a firm offer with information about registration and orientation. You must accept the offer within the time stated. If you do not, your offer expires and you lose your place. However, you can contact the UWC Contact Centre to ask whether an expired offer is still available.
Changing your choices
If you change your mind about your programme, do not submit a new application. Instead, contact the UWC Contact Centre to ask whether you can change your choice. Also tell the Contact Centre if your contact details change, so that UWC can reach you.
Residence and funding
For residence questions, contact Residential Services on 021 959 2569 or at resservices1@uwc.ac.za. For bursaries and financial aid, the Financial Aid Office is on 021 959 9753 or 021 959 2737. Apply for NSFAS separately, using its own dates.
Getting help
For application questions, email admissions@uwc.ac.za or call 021 959 3900, 3901 or 3902. UWC also runs an open day for future students, which is a good chance to visit the campus and ask questions before you apply. Check the UWC admission requirements before you choose your two programmes.
