You apply to the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) online. Applications for the 2027 academic year opened on 21 May 2026, and the application fee is R110. VUT asks prospective students to apply as soon as possible, because places in each programme are limited.
Closing dates for 2027
VUT's application page gives 30 October 2026 as the closing date for national applicants and 30 September 2026 for international applicants. Its 2027 requirements leaflet lists 30 September for academic applications and 31 October for residences, so apply by the earlier date to be safe. Several programmes closed early, on 31 July 2026, including:
- BEd in Senior Phase and FET Teaching
- Diplomas in Information Technology, Safety Management and Policing
- Diplomas in Logistics, Agricultural Management and Human Resources
- Diplomas in Labour Law and Legal Assistance
Step 1: Choose two programmes
Choose a first and a second choice of study programme. Check that you meet the minimum requirements for both on the VUT admission requirements page. If you already have your final matric results, the system shows only the qualifications you are eligible for.
Step 2: Apply online
Complete the online application with all the required information and documents, such as a certified copy of your ID and your results. Proof of address is not compulsory.
Step 3: Pay the application fee
For 2027, VUT introduced a new process. You pay the application fee on the application portal before the system lets you submit your application. Once the payment is processed, you can submit.
Step 4: Track your application
Check your application status regularly on VUT's website.
TVET applicants
If you apply with results from a TVET college, email the administrative staff of the department that offers your programme after you submit, and copy the Assistant Registrar. VUT lists these contacts on its how to apply page.
Registration
VUT registers students on a first come, first served basis, and spaces are limited to each programme's quota. So accepting an offer does not automatically guarantee registration. National students pay a first minimum payment of R2,500 at registration. Read more on the VUT fees page.
Late applications and other fees
VUT's 2026 fee guide lists a late application fee of R140, and an application fee of R120 for international citizens. If you are applying for an advanced diploma, honours, master's or doctoral programme, VUT announces those opening and closing dates separately during the year.
Residence applications
Apply for a residence by the residence closing date. Residence registration only becomes active once you have completed your academic registration.
