About Atns Aimo Bursary
The ATNS AIMO Bursary is one of the in-house training streams run by Air Traffic and Navigation Services SOC Limited (ATNS), South Africa's state-owned air traffic and navigation services provider, through its Aviation Training Academy (ATA) in Bonaero Park, Gauteng. AIMO stands for Aeronautical Information Management Officer, a specialist aviation role responsible for collecting, managing and distributing aeronautical information - including NOTAMs, aeronautical charts, and flight-procedure and airspace data - that pilots and air traffic controllers rely on for flight safety.
Unlike most bursaries listed on this site, this is not funding toward study at a public university. Selected candidates train and study at ATNS's own Academy while working toward becoming licensed AIMOs, and the process includes ability assessments, an interview, a medical examination and a vetting/verification process in addition to academic screening.
Funding Details
Selected trainees receive fully funded training in the Aeronautical Information Management Officer stream at the ATA, with the possibility of employment as a qualified AIMO within ATNS on successful completion. ATNS does not publish specific stipend or allowance amounts, so applicants should confirm these directly with the recruiter during the selection process.
Where You Can Study
Training takes place at the ATNS Aviation Training Academy (ATA) in Bonaero Park, Gauteng - ATNS's own accredited facility - rather than at a public university.

What does AIMO mean?
Aeronautical Information Management Officer - one of five specialist streams (alongside ATSO, TGO, AMC Liaison Officer and SSO) trained through ATNS's in-house bursary programme. No. Training happens in-house at the ATNS Aviation Training Academy in Bonaero Park, Gauteng, rather than at a public university.
When do applications close?
ATNS has previously run around four intake rounds a year through its recruitment portal rather than a single annual closing date. As of August 2026 no confirmed date for the next intake had been published, so check the ATNS recruitment portal directly for current openings.
What happens after training?
Successful trainees can be placed as qualified AIMOs within ATNS's operations, subject to the organisation's operational requirements at the time.
