Eligibility Requirements

  • South African citizen
  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science
  • Registered at a recognised institution for Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (ECSA-accredited)
  • Successfully completed first year, progressing to second year or higher
  • Demonstrated academic excellence and financial need (Scheme A), or IMESA member dependant of 5+ years (Scheme B)

About Imesa Bursary

The IMESA Bursary is funded by the Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (IMESA) to support students studying Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering who would otherwise struggle to afford tertiary study, addressing a persistent shortage of municipal engineering skills in South Africa.

IMESA runs two separate schemes: Scheme A for students with no IMESA affiliation who can demonstrate financial need, and Scheme B for children or dependants of IMESA members who have held membership for at least five years.

Funding Details

The bursary covers tuition fees and books, paid directly to your institution, up to a maximum value of R50,000. Recipients are also appointed a mentor and encouraged to participate in IMESA activities.

Any South African tertiary institution with an ECSA-accredited Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering programme qualifies.
