About Kzn Provincial Government Bursaries
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government runs an annual bursary programme for residents of the province, coordinated across several provincial departments -- including Human Settlements, Agriculture and Rural Development, Transport, and Provincial Treasury -- with applications centrally administered by the Bursary Unit at the KZN Department of Provincial Treasury in Pietermaritzburg. Each participating department funds bursaries in its own scarce-skills fields, in exchange for a post-qualification service commitment from recipients.

The programme is reported to cover tuition, textbooks, accommodation, and a meal allowance or stipend.

Frequently Asked Questions
When did the most recent intake run?
The most recently published round, for the 2026 academic year, opened on 31 December 2025 and closed on 15 February 2026. That window has passed.
When does the next intake open?
As of this page's last verification (28 August 2026), the KZN Provincial Treasury Bursary Unit had not yet published dates for the next round. Check the official KZN Treasury website closer to the end of the year for updates.
Why was this bursary previously shown under a Western Cape provider?
An earlier data import on this site incorrectly linked this KwaZulu-Natal bursary to the Western Cape Provincial Government. That was a data error unrelated to the actual programme, and it has been corrected -- this bursary is administered by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, not the Western Cape.
Do I have to work for the province afterwards?
Yes. Recipients sign a bursary contract and are required to serve the sponsoring department for a period matching the length of their funded studies after qualifying.
