About Masakhisizwe Bursary
The Masakh'iSizwe Bursary is run by the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works for students pursuing degrees or diplomas in transport, engineering, or the built environment. The programme is designed to build the province's own pipeline of built-environment professionals, at a time when South Africa faces a well-documented shortage of registered engineers and technical specialists in the public sector.
Because Masakh'iSizwe is a provincial government programme rather than a corporate bursary, it comes with a formal obligation: after graduating, bursars are required to work for the Department and complete its Professional Development Training Programme on the way to full professional registration.
Funding Details
The bursary covers full tuition fees and all prescribed books and study materials, plus accommodation and meals, or a transport allowance if you live at home. Recipients also get academic tutoring, mentoring, and access to health and wellness support throughout their studies.
