About SARB (South African Reserve Bank) Bursary
The SARB External Bursary Scheme is run by the South African Reserve Bank, the country's central bank, for first-year undergraduate students from disadvantaged backgrounds in a wide range of scarce-skills fields.
Applications go through the SARB's own bursary manager portal or by post/email, using the promo code SARBEXT2027 - using the wrong or an outdated promo code is a common, entirely avoidable rejection reason, so double-check it against the current year's official notice before submitting rather than reusing an old one you found on a third-party site.
Funding Details
The bursary covers tuition and related study costs for undergraduate study in Accounting, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance, Information Technology, Law, Mathematical Statistics, Medicine, Dentistry, Social Work, and other scarce skills fields.
Where You Can Study
Any South African university qualifies, provided you have provisional acceptance into an undergraduate degree in one of the SARB's supported fields.

Fields of Study & Who Can Apply
You must be a South African citizen younger than 30, entering your first year of undergraduate study in 2027, with provisional acceptance into a degree at a South African university and an average of at least 70% in your June Grade 12 examinations. You must come from a disadvantaged background and demonstrate genuine financial need.
Because this is a first-year-only bursary judged partly on your June results (not just your final Matric mark), make sure the transcript you submit is your actual June results document, not your final-year certificate - submitting the wrong document is a common processing delay.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this bursary open to second-year students?
No, it is restricted to students entering their first year of undergraduate study.
What is the promo code for and why does it matter?
SARBEXT2027 identifies your application as part of the current bursary cycle - using an outdated code from a previous year is a common, avoidable reason applications get delayed or rejected.
Which results does SARB assess - June or final Matric?
Your June Grade 12 examination results, not your final certificate, since the bursary targets first-year entrants applying before their final results are out.
Is there a work-back requirement?
SARB does not publish a fixed employment contract for this bursary, though it is designed to build a pipeline of scarce skills relevant to the Bank's own work.
