Energy

Energy bursaries support students in electrical and mechanical engineering, renewable energy and power-sector careers. Funders are mainly utilities, energy producers and renewable-energy developers, and some listings give preference to people who live near their wind, solar or power-generation projects.

There are fewer listings in this category than in engineering generally, so it is worth looking more widely. Many awards from energy companies appear under engineering, mining or science, depending on the degree they fund. As a result, searching only one category can hide opportunities that suit you.

What funders usually ask for:

  • Strong results in Mathematics and Physical Sciences.
  • Registration for an accredited engineering or technical qualification.
  • Sometimes residence near the funder's project, with proof of address.
  • Willingness to do vacation work, and in some cases to work for the funder after graduating.
