MBA & Postgraduate

This category covers honours, master's, doctoral and MBA study. Funding comes from research councils, universities, companies and trusts, and awards range from partial fee support to full scholarships with a living allowance. Some are open to any subject, while others are tied to a research area or an industry.

Postgraduate funding works differently from undergraduate bursaries. Selection leans heavily on your research potential, your undergraduate record and the support of an academic supervisor. As a result, the deadlines are usually earlier, and the applications take longer to prepare.

What funders usually ask for:

  • A strong undergraduate record, often a minimum average for entry to the programme.
  • A research proposal or study plan, and a named supervisor for research degrees.
  • Academic references.
  • For MBA awards, work experience and a clear career plan.

Contact the university's postgraduate office early, because many awards are applied for through the institution as well as directly with the funder. Our postgraduate funding guide explains how to find and apply for these awards, and the international category lists study-abroad options.
