The Northern Cape is South Africa's largest province by area but has the smallest population. Its economy centres on mining, notably iron ore, manganese and diamonds, and on large solar and wind energy projects. Much of the funding listed here comes from those operations and is aimed at people who live close to them.
Some listings set a distance limit, such as living within a stated number of kilometres of a power plant, or name specific towns and districts. Sol Plaatje University in Kimberley and the province's TVET colleges serve local students. Keep proof of residence ready, since distance and area rules are checked closely. For funding that is open to students from any province, see our main bursary listings.
