The University of Cape Town (UCT) publishes a 2027 Undergraduate Prospectus, a guide for school-leavers and others interested in studying for a first degree at UCT. UCT says it introduces you to life at UCT, describes the campus, its services and facilities, and gives details of all undergraduate programmes. Here is what UCT's main admission documents contain and how to use them.
The 2027 Undergraduate Prospectus
- Life at UCT, the campus and its services and facilities
- Details of all undergraduate programmes in UCT's six faculties
- Information on student housing, funding and support
Guidelines for applicants
Alongside the prospectus, UCT publishes 2027 admission guidelines for NSC applicants. They explain how UCT assesses applicants using an Admission Points Score (APS), a Faculty Points Score (FPS) and a Weighted Points Score (WPS), all based on your actual percentages rather than the 7-point scale.
Your APS adds your six best subject percentages, excluding Life Orientation and Advanced Programme subjects, but including English and any subjects your programme requires. Each faculty then calculates its own FPS, out of 600, 800 or 900 depending on the faculty.
Faculty sections
The guidelines have a section for each faculty: Commerce, Engineering and the Built Environment, Health Sciences, Humanities, Law and Science. Each explains how that faculty scores applicants, the points it needs and any extra requirements, such as the NBTs.
National Benchmark Tests
The guidelines explain that applicants who live or attend school in South Africa must write the NBTs by 3 October 2026, and by 31 July 2026 if they want a conditional offer in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Register for the NBTs before you apply, and include your NBT registration number in your application. The NBTs are not used for admission to Engineering and the Built Environment.
How to use these documents
- Read the prospectus to choose your programmes.
- Use the guidelines to calculate your APS and the FPS for your faculty.
- Register for and write the NBTs in time.
- Apply online by 31 July 2026, and submit portfolios by 31 August 2026 if your programme needs one.
Fees
UCT's Student Fees Office publishes its fees and payment dates separately. For 2027, the first payment for South African students is R36,000 for tuition, plus R47,000 for a catering residence or R31,000 for self-catering, due by 29 January 2027.
Funding
UCT's Undergraduate Bursaries and Loans Handbook lists other sponsors, and its funding pages explain entrance scholarships and NSFAS.
