University of Mpumalanga Fees

Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

Fees at the University of Mpumalanga (UMP) depend on your programme, year of study and modules, and whether you live on campus. UMP's 2026 fees handbook lists a minimum and a maximum fee for each year of each programme, and the Council sets the initial payments every year.

Estimated first-year tuition in 2026

  • Bachelor of ICT: R56,266
  • BSc: R55,303 to R67,629
  • BSc in Agriculture: R52,955 to R58,861
  • Bachelor of Social Work: R49,275
  • Bachelor of Laws: R43,969 to R48,041
  • BEd in Foundation Phase Teaching: R40,421 to R48,001

Initial payments in 2026

  • Tuition deposit: R5,985.50 for most programmes
  • Residence deposit: R3,498.40 for most students

Students with confirmed funding do not pay these initial payments. Pay at least 48 hours before registration, so that the payment clears.

Paying the balance

You pay the rest of your tuition in three equal instalments, by 30 April, 31 July and 30 September. Residence fees are paid in two equal instalments, by 30 April and before the end of the first semester. Students who register only for the second semester pay up to half of the initial instalment before registering, and the balance by 30 September.

International students

International students must pay all of the previous year's debt and 50% of the current year's tuition and accommodation fees before registration.

Students with debt

To register with debt from an earlier year, you pay part of it first. If you owe less than R10,000, you pay it all. If you owe R10,000 to R30,000, you pay R10,000 plus 15% of the amount above R10,000. Higher debts need larger payments. You cannot get on-campus accommodation until the previous year's balance is paid in full.

Larger debts

If you owe R30,000 to R50,000, you pay R13,000 plus 20% of the amount above R30,000. For R50,000 to R100,000, it is R17,000 plus 20% of the amount above R50,000, and above R100,000 it is R29,500 plus 30% of the amount above R100,000. You can sign a new acknowledgement of debt only if you kept to the previous year's payment plan.

Cancelling first-semester modules

If you cancel by the end of February, you pay nothing. If you cancel by the end of March, you pay 50% of the tuition fee, and from 1 April you pay 100%.

Cancelling second-semester modules

For second-semester modules, cancelling by the end of July costs nothing, by the end of August costs 50% of the tuition fee, and from 1 September costs 100%.
