Where you study
Most programmes are taught at the Hatfield Campus. Education lectures are all at Groenkloof, about 5 km from Hatfield. MBChB students attend first-semester lectures at Hatfield, then all lectures at Prinshof from the second semester. Veterinary students study at Onderstepoort.
How you learn
UP follows a blended approach, with both online learning and in-person classes. So you need an internet-enabled device, preferably a laptop. UP recommends at least an i3 processor, 8 GB of RAM and 500 GB of storage. EBIT and Natural and Agricultural Sciences need higher specifications and specific software.
Online programmes
Through UPOnline, UP launched its first fully online accredited programmes in March 2020. Check the UPOnline pages for the programmes and their application guidelines.
No mid-year intake
UP does not offer a mid-year intake, except in specific cases for non-degree purposes. So plan to apply for the start of the academic year.
What UP does not offer
UP's frequently asked questions note that it does not offer some fields, such as Astrophysics. Use UP's programme calculator to see which programmes you may be considered for, based on your school subjects and marks.
Orientation
Orientation Week at the start of the year is a must-attend event for new students. It covers module registration, campus life and academic opportunities.
Choosing a programme
Each programme has its own APS and subject requirements. For example, the MBChB needs an APS of 35. Compare your marks on the UP admission requirements page, and see the how to apply page.
