Walter Sisulu University (WSU) has an online tracking system where you can check your application status, and a Student Portal (iEnabler) for registration. The steps below come from WSU's 2026 registration information.
Tracking your application
Use WSU's application status tracking system on its website. Check it regularly, especially after the final matric results are released in January.
Application dates for 2027
- Applications opened on 1 June 2026
- International applications closed on 30 September 2026
- General applications closed on 31 October 2026
The non-refundable application fee is R100, and WSU warns applicants never to pay it into an individual's bank account.
Complete applications only
WSU does not process incomplete applications. Upload a certified copy of your ID, or passport for international applicants, and your matric or academic results, in PDF, PNG or JPEG format of up to 5 MB each. Medicine and health sciences applicants also need their June Grade 12 report.
Meeting the minimum
Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Admission depends on academic eligibility, space and any faculty selection criteria.
Statuses that let you register
You can only register for a programme if your admission status is one of these:
- Admitted
- Admitted International
- RPL Admitted
Statuses that do not
You cannot register if your status shows any of these:
- Awaiting NSC final results
- Program Full
- Acknowledgement of iYunivesithi Walter Sisulu Application
- Not Admitted
- Any incomplete or outstanding status
Other restrictions
Even if you are fully admitted, you cannot register while you have active restrictions, such as a financial block, an academic exclusion, or an international block for non-South African students. Check the Registration Restrictions section on the portal.
Registration dates in 2026
- Returning students and new students with firm admission: from 7 January 2026
- First-time entering students: from 15 January 2026
- Registration ended for all students on 30 January 2026
Your PIN
To log in, you need your student number and PIN. If you do not have a PIN, click Request a PIN, and it is sent to your registered email address. If you forgot it, use WSU's PIN recovery facility with your student number, ID or passport number and full name.
Postgraduate registration
In 2026, registration for master's and PhD students ended on 23 January.
Funding status
Check your NSFAS funding status separately on the NSFAS portal. If it differs from the status on WSU's portal, the NSFAS portal takes precedence.
Getting help
If you have trouble while off campus, contact your campus. For Mthatha, email applicationsmth@wsu.ac.za or call 047 502 2448. See the WSU student portal page.
