Walter Sisulu University (WSU) publishes a 2027 Undergraduate Information Brochure and Admission Requirements, which works as its prospectus. It sets out the general admission rules, WSU's APS conversion table and every faculty's programmes. Here is what it contains and how to use it.
What is in the WSU brochure
- General admission rules: the minimum requirements for a higher certificate, diploma and bachelor's degree, international results and mature age endorsements
- WSU APS conversion table: how WSU turns your NSC percentages into points
- Example APS calculations: three worked examples, including one for a BEd Foundation Phase applicant whose Life Orientation counts
- Faculty sections: Economic and Financial Sciences; Education; Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology; Law, Humanities and Social Sciences; Management and Public Administration Sciences; Medicine and Health Sciences; and Natural Sciences
Programme tables
Each faculty section opens with a short description and a table of its undergraduate qualifications, with the qualification code, SAQA ID, NQF level, credits, duration and campus. Then each programme's APS and subject requirements are listed, with a short overview of the qualification and its career paths.
How WSU calculates your APS
The brochure explains that WSU adds the points for your best six subjects, excluding Life Orientation: up to two languages in Category 1, and the four other subjects with your highest marks in Category 2. The four must include any subjects your programme requires.
How to use the brochure
- Calculate your APS with the conversion table.
- Find your programme and check its APS, subject levels and campus.
- Read any extra notes, such as the additional selection criteria for Medicine.
- Look at extended curriculum versions if you fall a little short.
- Apply online during the application period.
Campuses in the brochure
The brochure shows where each faculty is based: Economic and Financial Sciences and Medicine and Health Sciences at Mthatha, Engineering, Built Environment and IT at Buffalo City, and Education at Komani with a delivery site at Mthatha.
