CUT Academic Calendar and Registration Dates

Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

The Central University of Technology (CUT) in Bloemfontein and Welkom publishes a detailed year programme, which lists meetings, closing dates and registration. When we checked on 5 November 2026, the full 2027 calendar was not on the CUT calendar page, which still showed earlier years. CUT has, however, published the 2027 registration dates on its enrolment page. This page sets those out, adds the other 2027 dates that CUT has confirmed, and explains what to do until the full calendar appears.

Registration dates for 2027

  • First-year registration: 18 to 22 January 2027
  • Senior student registration: 26 to 29 January 2027
  • Course control period: 1 to 5 February 2027

Course control is the week in which students check and correct their modules after registration, so it is worth treating as part of registration rather than as extra time.

Other confirmed dates

  • Application decisions: CUT will finalise them once matric results are released, and all applicants receive their outcome in mid-January 2027.
  • Selection tests: scheduled for early January 2027, starting on 6 January for Bloemfontein and Welkom.
  • Online programmes: the January intake starts on 18 January 2027.
  • Research master's and doctoral applications: close on 30 March 2027.

CUT's 2027 undergraduate application cycle opened in April 2026 and closed on 30 September 2026. CUT says that it does not take late applications and does not review rejected statuses.

What is not yet published

CUT has not yet released the full set of 2027 dates for lectures, recesses and examinations. Its year programme for 2026 lists "finalisation of Academic Calendar 2027" as a task, so the document is still in preparation. Until it appears, you should not assume that lectures start on the date they started in 2026.

Reading the 2026 year programme

CUT's 2026 year programme shows how the full calendar is built. It lists the registration windows for first-time entering and senior students, a late registration period, the day on which all lectures commence at every campus, the Easter recess, and the start of the second quarter. If CUT keeps that structure, the 2027 calendar will have the same parts, and the registration dates above will fit into it.

How to plan with the registration dates

  1. If CUT offered you a place, prepare your documents before 18 January, including proof of funding and proof of payment.
  2. If you are a returning student, you register in the week after the first years, so check that your fees are in order first.
  3. Use the course control week to fix module errors, because mistakes found later can cost you marks or money.
  4. Do not pay anyone for registration. CUT warns about fraudsters who pose as its staff, and it accepts payment only through its official banking details.
