Students at the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) use the CUT Student Portal, eThuto for online learning, and Microsoft Office 365 for email, all with the same username and password. The guidance below comes from CUT's student IT setup and support page.
Wait 24 hours after registering
After you register at CUT, the system takes up to 24 hours to add you as a registered student. Wait for this period before you try to log in to any platform.
One set of credentials
The same username and password work for:
- The CUT Student Portal
- eThuto, CUT's e-learning system
- Microsoft Office 365, including your student email on Outlook
Register your password first
You must register your password the first time, which is needed only once. CUT provides a how-to video. If you later have trouble logging in, you can reset your password, but only if you registered it before.
Microsoft Authenticator
CUT requires Microsoft Authenticator to log in to its platforms, including eThuto, Connect+, Microsoft 365 and your student email. Set it up on your phone early.
iEnabler two-factor authentication
CUT's iEnabler has two-factor authentication, an extra security step that sends a unique verification code to your phone alongside your password. When you see the prompt to activate it, follow the steps straight away.
eThuto
eThuto is CUT's main online learning management system, and all enrolled students are registered on it automatically. If you cannot see your modules or log in, CUT has a troubleshooting video.
Connect+
Connect+ is another CUT platform that uses Microsoft Authenticator, alongside eThuto and Microsoft 365. Use your CUT credentials to log in.
Keep your credentials safe
CUT reminds students that it is their responsibility to safeguard their credentials and not share them with anyone when using student platforms.
Wi-Fi
CUT provides video guides for connecting each type of mobile device to the campus network.
Your student email
Your student email is hosted on Outlook in Microsoft Office 365. Check it often for messages from your faculty and lecturers.
Browsers
Use Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Opera. Internet Explorer is no longer supported.
Paying fees
During registration, you can pay directly on the application system for immediate reflection, which CUT recommends, or by EFT, which may take up to three days.
Getting help
CUT offers a full step-by-step guide to setting up your username, password and email on all your devices, and its Ask CUT site explains how to access the Student Portal. See the CUT application status page, or read the CUT overview.
