The University of Fort Hare (UFH) uses an online application portal for applicants and a Student Portal, with the Student iEnabler, for applications and student administration. The guidance below comes from Fort Hare's application FAQs and its admission pages.
The online application portal
To apply, visit Fort Hare's online application portal and complete the online form. You create an account, fill in your personal and academic details, and upload your documents. You also use the portal to track your admission status.
The Student iEnabler
The Student Portal gives you access to the Student iEnabler. From there, open Student Application and then Show Academic Applications to see your applications. Fort Hare's support FAQ uses this path to explain how to manage a change of course.
Documents to upload
Prepare each document as a separate PDF:
- Proof of payment of the application fee
- A certified copy of your ID
- A certified copy of your Grade 12 mid-year or June results, or your final certificate
- Proof of your residential address, if you are applying for accommodation or as an international student
Paying the fee
Fort Hare asks students to pay the application fee online through PayGate, as the online application directs. The fee is R120 for South African applicants and R500 for international applicants.
Your student card
Once registered, you receive a student card. Fort Hare's rules say you must show it whenever the authorities ask, including when you enter the university, and you may never lend it to anyone.
Keep your details correct
Fort Hare uses SMS and email to update applicants, so keep your cellphone number and email address current. Never share your login details or PIN with anyone.
Accommodation
Residence applications are handled through the NSFAS Accommodation Portal, which is separate from Fort Hare's own systems. Use it to apply for and follow your residence application.
Getting help
If you have trouble with the online portal or missing documents, contact Fort Hare's Admissions Office. Fort Hare also publishes a step-by-step application guide and answers to common questions on its First Year Experience support site.
Keep your records
Keep your proof of payment and your application number somewhere safe, because you need them for any query about your application or fee.
Applying for funding
NSFAS has its own online application on the NSFAS website, separate from Fort Hare's portals. Apply there before its closing date.
